Today no need to go work...but i have to go for my OBS course!! itz a 2D1N course at Outward Bound Singapore which is at Pulau Ubin..I haven been to Pulau Ubin before..so itz a new experience to mi...we reached the jetty...participants were Khoo, Hwee Thiam, Mui Sang, LingPo, Alvin, Sze hao, Wilman, Justin, Bryan,Jiawei,Kenneth, Gabriel,Fabian,Lei..we are from different departments in Engines...so itz a nice trip to actually create bonding and team building spirit...tatz the main purpose of this OBS..our trainer is David...hmm i guess the name David is a very successful name lehz...haha next time, if i have a kid, i will him David too...haha anyway, tatz still too far away..
We took a ferry ride which is 20mins away from Punggol Jetty...then we reached OBS and we went to a training room named Denali...i tink itz the name of a summit...anyway, we had ice-breaker games..one of the game was called Helium Hoop...15 of us wil have to put out our two fingers and try to move the Helium Hoop from a height then down to the bottom at the floor..it was tough...coz u may think u are not touching it..somehow, the hoop was suspending and at one side ,it will always be tilting...very hard to control...haha we had 3 tries but we failed...then we proceed to play a game 'Key Punch'...there were a total of 14 numbers and 4 alphabet cards on the floor and they are bounded by a rope...so each of us will have to step on the number when it is called and numbers are called in ascending values...so i realise that '7' and '11' is missing...the alphabets are ' C K P U' if u go by ascending...haha we were split into two teams...my team with Sze hao, Alvin, Khoo,Gabriel, Hwee Thiam, Kenneth and mi...i am in charge of calling numbers...they used their hands to key in the numbers...calls for alot of co-operation and teamwork...we lost to the other team by mere 3 seconds but each trial we took, we improved the timing due to the change in strategy..haha so we improved the process to improve the results...
Then we played a game which involves paasing msgs...there are 5 roles...Planner(Khoo,Alvin): He will get to see a template or picture made up by matchsticks...then he will describe the picture to Comm 1(Gabriel) ...Comm 1 then conveyed what was described to Comm 2..Comm 2(Hwee Thiam) will eventually passed the msg to the Builder(Kenneth and Sze hao) who will build the diagram...So the team that won used a Walkie talkie..we gotta walk from point to point to Convey Msg..I was the Quality controller...to actually observed how they passed msg around and the quality of the work at the end of the building...I guessed i did my job as a QC and our team won coz i have a better control over quality..but everyone played an important part to ensure the info is not lost and the builder noe what they are building.. Then we had lunch ...after that we went to climb a mountain...itz a small side hill actually...so we are supposed to move from one tree to the other but we are blindfolded...so how are we going to do that in 45 mins...too much time lost in planning and mission failed! haiz...but i tink we did well coz we were closed to the end tree!!
We had some physical activites like climbing the inverse tower...itz very very high...we split into 2 teams , one to climb the exterior and the other to climb the interior tower...exterior is more challenging and it involves couple climb...2 people strapped together...to reach the top we have 5,000 points..Lei was the project manager and we target 20,000 interior and 20,000 exterior...when it was my turn to climb..wah i was scared!!the first part was to clear a vertical rock climbing wall...half way through, i tot i was dying...itz very tall as well...and u cant seem to find the right rock to step on...scary!! then we have to climb onto the logs which they have handles to hold on...wah the climbing over part was horrible...like nothing for u to platform and step on...i nearly wanted to gif up..after the logs, i climbed on to climb the rubber tyres...if i reached rubber tyres, i would have gain 1,500 points...but i am juz curious how far i can go...and i am not willing to juz get tat 1,500 for my contribution to my team!! with Jiawei and the encouragement from the rest, i hang on and continue to climb...i climbed to the last stage...the cargo net before reaching the final platform!...haha VICTORY!! i climbed and touched that stupid platform...i was scared of coming down coz belayer was Muisang...she was thinner than mi...but u muz have trust in the person belaying u...juz like in a corporation, u muz learn to trust the work that is delegated to the person..believing that they will put in their best effort to perform their roles...
Finally,it was dinner time...tired and shag!!we went to bunk in our rooms..we shared a big room with the guys but of coz there were proper doors...so we bathed and proceed to the cookhouse for dinner...then we went back to our training room for our big project..i was arrowed to be the project leader...itz like a building raft project...but i need to get money for buliding materials and we oso have to appoint a chief engineer and that will be Khoo! then i assigned Bryan and Fabian to do design for company logo...Our company motto: We Keep Rafts floating safely! The design was very cute with 4 little rubber ducklings...haha anyway, well done Bryan and Fabian...then we had our raft building...mainly Khoo, Jiawei and wilman who have experience in tat...Then the rest was split into raising money..meaning participate in games and get the money... last min tatic changes...instead of jetty jump and 80s' medley...we included other things to make sure we can get more money...like folding aeroplanes to fly more than 10m..3 groups instead of 1 to sing the 80s Medley which is like singing 6 songs in 2mins...haha the songs are really corny...then we played trapped...2 inter-twined strings to be un-entangle and free 2 persons...then we played Moon ball to pass a big ball around for 50 times...tiring...we played Log Mee and that is all 14 people to be standing on the log and balanced for 20seconds...The last game was Traffic Jam...that is 2 groups standing in a tile arranged in V shape...and u have a empty tile at the vertex..we have to completely swopped A to B and B to A...we accomplished that too...
Then it was raft building!! We built our raft..GM, Mr Choo was here to cheer for us too..our raft was steady and good...haha went out to 50m and back without disintegration!!after we were back, we went for Jetty Jump...i didnt dare to jump and GM asked y i nv jump...i am scared ...under peer pressure and encouragement, i decided to jump...i was scared so David got Khoo and Alvin down in the water to wait for mi...scary...at the moment of the jump, 2 seconds seem really long...as in how come haven touched the water yet!! and i started breathing with the water in my nose and mouth...was coughing when i was out of the water man!!yeah..i overcome 2 fears...height and deep sea!! haha then we went back to tear down our raft and we went back to bathe and have lunch...had a debrief and our certificates presentation..off we go..had tea break with Yip and David Goh...Yip drove mi,Lei and Alvin from Punggol Jetty...haha so nice...it was raining manz!!
hee finally, i can mit up with my darling Mark...hee met him and i was late and he got angry...opps...then we went to change money coz he is leaving for Brisbane tmr...then we went back his home...he was going to attend a bbq by his fren/buddy , Meng so i juz joined him..it was rather weird when i was there...coz i totally dunno them at all...no appetite to eat at all too...so Mark ate there and Stanley came to pick us up from Meng's place...we went Orchard for night shopping and supper at NYDC....
